History of the NEB Manifesto
A group of 16 people from the NEB Community gathered with one driving idea:
« All important cultural and artistic movements have a manifesto, so it is high time to produce a MANIFESTO for the NEW EUROPEAN BAUHAUS! »
Indeed, all major art and cultural movements have a manifesto. Let’s mention in this context the manifesto of Dada produced by Tristan Tzara, the manifesto of Futurism produced by Tommaso Marinetti, the manifesto of Surrealism produced by André Breton… of course, the manifesto of the Bauhaus produced by Walter Gropius! And many, many more!
In this context, the Cultural Center Bozar in Brussels is hosting an exhibition (21 February – 16 June 2024) for the 100-year jubilee of Surrealism with the manifesto of Surrealism of André Breton put at its center, see: https://www.bozar.be/fr/calendrier/histoire-de-ne-pas-rire-le-surrealisme-en-belgique
The group of 16 people aiming at writing the NEB Manifesto was coming from the following NEB Community entities:
Atelier Valentino Gareri (appointed NEB Design Mentor by EIT and Jury Member of the NEB Prize), Project Mining Cities in acclimatization (NEB Prize Finalist 2023), Solar Solidarity International (Official NEB Partner), Studio Ankaraaks (Official NEB Partner), Symbiotic Design Academy (Friend of the NEB), Università Degli Studi Firenze (Official NEB Partner with First NEB Rising Star under 30 in 2021).
The group was consisting of the following members:
Alexandre, Amandine, Emma, Gonzalo, Huina, Jérémy, Julien, Kathy-Sandrine, Ludovica, Margarita, Naz, Ségolène, Tristan, Valentino, Xana, Zeynep.
The group was set up further to a call launched in the official NEB Community newsletter sent by the European Commission (JRC.B4) on 22nd of January 2024 as follows:
For a Manifesto of the New European Bauhaus |
Solar Solidarity International is launching a new initiative aiming at setting up a ‘Manifesto of the New European Bauhaus’. The objective is to set up the manifesto, have it ready at the next edition of the NEB Festival (9-14 April 2024) and have it freely adopted by those who wish to sign it. The manifesto will be prepared by a working group that will meet 3 times till the end of March. The kick-off meeting (« brainstorming ») will take place on 13 February at 13:00 (CET) for one hour. If you would like to be part of this initiative please contact Xana and Alexandre. |
All those who expressed their interest in joining the working group to set up the NEB Manifesto were invited to join. Which better way could be found for setting up the NEB Manifesto than having it done in an inclusive way by a whole team!
These people have met for the first time on 13 of February 2024, then joined forces and worked hard for the NEB Manifesto.
On 13 of March 2024, the NEB Manifesto was approved.
The NEB Manifesto is an important milestone and cornerstone for the New European Bauhaus, paving the way for the future.
